Mission

To connect Christian partners in effective evangelism, discipleship, and community development.

Who Are We

Founded by New Zealander Ray Harrison in 1974, International Needs has become a Network of ministries in 40 countries (now globally known as the I.N. Network). Ray saw the need to assist national church leaders grow the church in their own countries.

This approach was a radical departure from the standard mission model 30 years ago, but in recent years it has been acknowledged as a key strategy in seeing the unreached come to faith in Christ. In many places western missionaries are unable to preach the gospel, and in some countries using westerners is not the most effective method.

The International Needs New Zealand ministry is one of partnership - connecting Christians and churches here with Christian workers in a developing nation. These workers are full-time evangelists or church planters, or they may be students at a training institute. Our partnership also involves child sponsorship. These children are given a good meal daily, an education, regular health care and all are given the opportunity to respond to the Gospel.

These partnerships allow for New Zealanders to travel to their partner ministries to work alongside their partners on a short term basis, to get the feel for living as a Christian in a less comfortable environment. We also promote the transmission of special skills in a mentoring way from New Zealanders to our front line ministries where they are needed. Churches that engage in these partnerships find that missions is exciting.

International Needs has a holistic concept of ministry which seeks to provide for all the needs of a person. In most of our ministry centres there are practical projects aimed at giving people skills for their future, such as work training. International Needs also partners with governments in New Zealand, Australia and Canada in effective community development projects.
