Casting a Long Shadow
In our culture, a shadow is usually seen as a negative image, but we know from the Bible that it is also a very positive one;
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Ps 91:1
I would like to invite you to participate in a ministry that is casting a long and penetrating shadow of blessing over many Arab nations, some of the most spiritually barren places in the world. By partnering with this ministry, the shadow of your church will also reach these very needy nations.
Egypt is the home of Nathan Bassaly, a trained veterinarian, pastor and leader of International Needs ministry there. As a child of five, Nathan witnessed his pastor father gunned down by militants and vowed to avenge his father’s death. But in his teens he met the Lord Jesus Christ and devoted his life to Him and to taking the gospel to the Arab people.
Nathan’s ministry now reaches over much of the Arab world. This shadow of blessing reaches Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Arab people in Israel and beyond.
How is this blessing and knowledge of Jesus carried? By a simple Bible Correspondence Course.
Every month 8,500 copies of this Course (copy pictured) are sent throughout the Arab world to believers and seekers after truth. Participants in the Course include Coptic Orthodox priests and rural pastors with no other teaching materials available to them.
Twice a year Nathan travels to Jordan to conduct leadership seminars for pastors there over a three day period. These sessions are the only outside input these church leaders receive so they can feed their people in the difficult environment of the Arab world.
This Jordan ministry is a vital link for the gospel into Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and the Arab people living in Israel. This is an environment where the evangelical Christian population is less than 1% in these nations and where spreading the gospel is illegal and Christians are actively persecuted.
Your Involvement
The most pressing need is for financing the Jordan Correspondence Course and ministry to leaders. This ministry needs $10,000 per annum to operate at the present level, to print and distribute the Course materials, for the staff who respond to the Course participants and for Nathan to travel and conduct leadership seminars. Ten people receive this assistance for every $50 sown into this ministry.
There are opportunities for your church to cast your shadow over Egypt through personal and team visits to assist Nathan and his team in Egypt:
- He has just completed the printing of a Children’s Sunday School curriculum and needs people to help him train Sunday school teachers.
- Nathan is involved in a small Christian school in Cairo and people from your church can go and teach English there and be involved in the school.
- You can also be involved in leadership training in Egypt with Nathan, visiting churches in huge cities like Cairo and small rural churches where there is a great need for leadership training.
- Nathan is a highly respected leader and there are opportunities to be involved in church ministry in Cairo and other areas of the nation.
The Arab world needs the gospel; Nathan needs support of Christians who can stand alongside of him and his team in this hard work.
I invite you to join him, casting the shadow of the Almighty over the Arab world.
